awww. That's too bad.
But if you should go, I'd let the LG stay with his friends, if you trust the parents otherwise. Staying up late for just one night won't do him any harm, at least not more than one day of feeling slightly groggy - and maybe he'll even understand why his usual bedtime is way earlier! :)

If you could get the cheap flights to Melbourne, you could stay with us. It's not fancy, but it's cheap (free!) and friendly!!

But, yeah, I feel you on the lack of money thing.
