This meme was inspired by my realization that I have not read all of the books written by even some of my very favorite authors. I just haven't had time to get to them all! Have you
( Read more... )
I've read virtually everything a myriad authors have penned.
* Virginia Woolf * John Steinbeck * Shakespeare * Enid Blyton * Roger Hargreaves (To my children) * A A Milne (To my children) * Shirley Hughes (To my children) * Alice Hoffman * Iain Banks * Edna O'Brien * A S Byatt * Erica Jong * Margaret Atwood * Margaret Forster * D H Lawrence * CS Lewis * The Brothers Grimm * Louisa M Alcott * Ruth Rendell * P D James * W B Yeats * T S Eliot * Sylvia Plath
Thank you :) I am old & have had years to read, research & study! My bookshelves are full of favourites. I could have made the list ten times as long.
You will find no trace of the Child Potter.
I saw a documentary once, about Harper Lee. She is so reclusive, & so certain in her 'one book' mythological status, she didn't even feature in the documentary. I've written two books & am penning a third. I would die happy were I able to write one paragraph as good as anything in To Kill a Mockingbird.
1. Are there any authors you love so much that you have read every single book they have ever published? List them. Marguerite Duras is the only one coming to mind right now, besides people who have only written one - three books.
2. Which of those authors has written the most books?
3. Who wrote the fewest?
4. Are there any authors you've read almost all of?
5. Are there any authors you are currently working on reading all the way through? Emile Zola and Alexandre Dumas.
6. Are there any authors who you thought you had read all of until you googled them for this meme and have now discovered they have a new book out? (yay! More reading for you!) I haven't looked yet, but will!

4. Are there any authors you've read almost all of? Terry Pratchett, Charles Stross, Jim Butcher
5. Are there any authors you are currently working on reading all the way through? Terry Pratchett, Charles Stross, Jim Butcher (I haven't read the graphic novels he's published)
6. Are there any authors who you thought you had read all of until you googled them for this meme and have now discovered they have a new book out? (yay! More reading for you!) Jonathan L Howard, author of the Johannes Cabal series.
I've only ever read "Fahrenheit 451" but have really been wanting to read some more Bradbury. I love science fiction but I don't like reading horror. Do you have any suggestions of a good book or series to start with from Bradbury?
If you like well written science fiction you might like Iain M Banks (Iain Banks' SF name.) I don't but I love his contemporary fiction - it's brilliant.

Jane Austen, J.D. Salinger, J.K. Rowling, Douglas Adams, Jean M. Auel, Stephen Fry, ... And a lot of authors who has only written a couple of books, like e.g. Khaled Hosseini.

How exciting it is to hear about a new book from a favorite author! I was so happy when I saw there was one more Lois McMaster Bujold I hadn't read yet :D
Oh, I adore Bujold! She mostly writes sci-fi but she's done some fantasy too. Her main series (with 15 books and counting) is the Vorkosian saga. Its a space ship/space travel/interplanetary politics/crazy mad-cap adventure series. Her main character, Miles Vorkosigan, is one of my absolute favorite protagonists in literature- no joke. He starts out with the huge disadvantage of physical weakness and poor health in a society which favors strength and toughness, and so has to get on top using his wits and his cleverness instead. I read the whole series in one huge gulp over a summer a few years ago, and it was sooooo much fun!

And for a one-off, beautifully written & conceived feminist science fiction story try, Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy. Marvellous.

Doris Lessing has written some excellent science fiction too. Again - not my cup of tea but like Banks, her straight fiction writing is superb.
