Feel free to post a meme anytime you like! Anything to do with books is welcome!

1. What books did you receive for Christmas (or other celebration) ?
On Christmas morning I received Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein, Goodbye to all That by Robert Graves, A Boy of Good Breeding by Miriam Toews, and All the Little live Things by Wallace Stegner.
I also got a gift card for my favourite online bookseller from my sister-in-law for Christmas and have purchased Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne-Jones, The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews, Forty Words for Sorrow by Giles Blunt, and Under the Glacier by Halldor Laxness.

2. Was there a favorite?
I'm really looking forward to the Robert Graves book and the one by Laxness. Both are books I've been wanting to read for ages.

3. What book(s) are you reading to end 2009 and begin 2010?
I'm trying to end the year on a light note, so I'm reading Cold Comfort Farm, which I'm enjoying very much, and I will ( ... )

I thoroughly enjoyed The Lightning Thief, and a movie version is due out in February, which seems promising. We gave my daughter the final book of the series for Christmas and she is deep into it already.

Great meme!

1. What books did you receive for Christmas (or other celebration) ?
The Blythes are Quoted by LM Montgomery; since people would be afraid to buy me a book, not knowing if I've read it already, I only got the one. I could count the books I got others, right? Since I'll read them as well, that's the best part of giving books. Then I'll include: I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This by Bob Newhart and 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill.
However, I just went Boxing Day shopping and bought myself The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.

2. Was there a favorite?
The LM Montgomery book, I'm sure will be a favorite.

3. What book(s) are you reading to end 2009 and begin 2010?
I am reading Small Wars by Sadie Jones, and then probably The Jade Peony

Great meme, thanks for posting :)

1. What books did you receive for Christmas (or other celebration)?

Penguin by Design: A Cover Story 1935-2005 by Phil Baines
The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
QI: Advanced Banter by John Lloyd
When I Crossed No-Bob by Margaret McMullan
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Death of Grass by John Christopher
Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse by Stephen King et al.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year: Portfolio 19
Landscape Photographer of the Year Collection 3

2. Was there a favorite?
I'm particularly delighted with the Penguin cover story, which is a beautiful and interesting book.

3. What book(s) are you reading to end 2009 and begin 2010?
I've started the Border Trilogy, and am about forty pages into All the Pretty Horses. McCormac's sparse, dry tones are perfect for the Western theme. I imagine the three stories will keep going until we cross the '10 line.

1. What books did you receive for Christmas (or other celebration)?
No books, but my darling husband gave me gift cards to two of my favorite used bookstores in town! I can't wait to spend them!
Also, husband and I each got $5 in free Borders Bucks, so we went shopping there the other night, and I used mine toward a copy of "Smoke & Mirrors" by Neil Gaiman.

2. Was there a favorite?
See question #1. :-)

3. What book(s) are you reading to end 2009 and begin 2010?
I'm *still* hoping to get to "Under the Dome" by Stephen King this year! :-)
ETA: But for now, I'm still reading "Her Fearful Symmetry" by Audrey Niffenegger, which I'm *loving*.
