Why was it controversial again? I know the real reason, but what was the ostensible bullshit? I don't recall.

I remember seeing a picture on Facebook of Captain Kirk kissing Uhura with the caption "This kiss was once considered controversial" and it actually took me a minute to realize why. I guess some people still consider it controversial.
