I've just read way too many cringe-worthy fic summaries to be emotionally healthy. Seriously. I feel like the challenge should be renamed 'Welcome To Trope-topia'.
I'm probably guilty as charged. I hate writing summaries. One of my latest only says "It started on a whim ..." Although really the title "The Case of the Missing French Horn" should be sufficient summary.
Well, I'll admit that I've written some stinker summaries in my day, but if I'm trying to entice an artist to choose my story I try to do more than word vomit all over the place with no real content. Also - and this is just a personal artist thing - I HATE authors who tell you in the summary post EXACTLY what scenes you're going to illustrate for them. I mean, if I haven't even read your fic yet, don't tell me what's gonna strike my fancy. That's pretty presumptuous.
Oh yes - that's very different. You want to give an idea of what to expect from the story for the artist to know whether it's their sort of thing. When I've done BigBangs the artist might ask for preferences, but I always make suggestions so they can take what works for them.
