Okay, so it's that time of year again. This time I was paired up with the lovely vernie_klein for her Sam/Dean AU fic called My Empire of Dirt. And seriously, who can resist a fic named after a NIN lyric, amirite? Damn straight. It's a dark story with plenty generational song references that you'll appreciate if you are a person of a certain vintage like me ( Read more... )

I do love graphite! And the hug pic (both versions). It's a really intense picture, Sam's hands are really gripping Dean so tight. That top had is particularly well drawn, as is the foot in the first pic! I'm definitely intrigued about reading this story after seeing your art.

Thanks ;) The scanned versions aren't as nice as the original (and I'm not sure how that happened. Must. Investigate. Scanner. Settings.) but it was nice to fall back on graphite and colored pencils again after abandoning them for so long.

Vernie should have the story posted by this evening.

I gave up on using our scanner, I photograph my drawings instead now.

My photography skills blow. Plus, I have a crappy camera. The scanner's great for linework but isn't too good for anything else. *shrugs*

Beautiful pieces! I particularly loved the shading and delicacy of the hugging pic.

Great illustrations! Especially the last one. I was an Art Student in college, and of course we had Art History. I always loved what the Renaissance painters called the "cartoons"; the drawings before the painting was done! Don't get me wrong, I love the colored-penciled one, too. But I always found the preliminary drawings the best, because to me they were the most spontaneous and alive!

Best regards,

Thanks ;) I, too, always prefer the sketch to the finished product. There's a vividness to them that seems to fade the more you work on them. And my favorite medium has always been graphite anyway.

Thanks ♥ The graphite version is still my favorite but the colored one turned out pretty well too. Thank you for checking everything out!

I really like how he text and image play together in the banner! I understand wanting to get the illustrations to follow the same style, but they all turned out amazing, so no harm ;). Love in particular the intensity of the color pencil image.

Oh, thank you! I was actually quite down on myself for failing to establish a style this year, so thanks for the boost ;)
