Is there any legal recourse that the Crawford family can take to get some or all of the value of the property they lost back?

That's a good question. We'll have to keep tabs on their story.

I found this community through the boondocks comic feed and this:

"White privilege is about accumulated wealth--rarely though, if ever, is it acknowledged that that wealth came at the expense and lives of families like the Crawfords"

has struck a chord in me.

I'm glad the story speaks to you. Unfortunately there's so many instances of that.

Like one of the first slaves in the colonies--Anthony Johnson--he bought his freedom, bought land and even had a couple of slaves. But when he died--his widow and children were prevented from inheriting his estate. This was back in the 1680s. But you've got to wonder at what could've been.

Then you realize just how strong the forces were arrayed against free people of color.

the second largest growing minority middle class

That is one weak argument, given that the U.S. only recognizes three or four "minority groups" in the first place. "I know that I'm only counting Asians, Blacks, and Latinos or telling you what the gaps between each group's middle class' economic growth is, but you have the second largest growing minority middle class, so clearly everything is fine now!" W...hat?
