I was searching for the pic for my new icon and came across this article from the German perspective on what happened at what was called the "Hitler Olympics" and thought it would be an interesting discussion piece for the group ( Read more... )

That was an interesting article--I wonder where the myth of Hitler being humiliated from Owens winning came from? Perhaps, a little post war spin from the US?

And that 'how's god' bit was funny.

the thing is, i'm sure this article is softening Hitler's reaction more than a bit. Sure, he didn't snub him, but by '36 he'd definitely made his ideas about Aryan superiority clear, and having black runners beat his fastest Aryans couldn't have been taken that lightly by him.

That being said, I'm sure the story was post-war spin from here, which angers me even more given the truth of the snubs he received from the US government and what he went thru when he returned. I've seen footage of the races with the horses. It made me cry I was so angry.

Yeah, it's very hypocritical. How many stories like this do we have to hear--I wish this country would just get over it already and teach what equality really meant back then (and its ripple effects felt now.)
