A Concise History of the Relationship Between Blacks and Asians

May 04, 2010 22:06

There's an interesting article up at Racialicious called Black AND Asian (and Jewish?). In addition to providing a history lesson, it also illustrates one way oppressors use immigrants to maintain power.

For the link phobic )

colonialism, white supremacy, class, racial stereotypes

Thanks for posting about this and I agree about the building of the racial stereotype of the Jews-- that is so ancient and its connection to white supremacy and anti-blackness and the way that's played out in the American 'assimilation process' has been very interesting, though again poc have born the burden on the failed interactions.

I'm gonna have to track down Secret Daughter.

What does the text under the photo say? I can't make it out.

I think that for the white ethnic groups who've had that American 'assimilation success'-- do need to look at how their ability to pass and ultimately enjoy the benefits of white privilege has affected the communities of color that nurtured them to begin with, yk?

Yeah they do, but I wouldn't hold my breathing wait for them to do it.

The media talks about the 'browning' of America to which I can only say...whut? America has always been 'browning'.

A great big WORD to this. America was all ready brown when Columbus fucking invaded.
