At the same time... I will say that Americans, including anti-racists, are sometimes put off by Brits/Europeans who point to these very serious issues while ignoring their own issues of racism. You know, I have often encountered such folk who really think that racism is exclusively "an American problem."
Not saying that's what you're saying, but you can imagine it can put us Yanks on edge. :)
I'm sorry, but I found that to be a bit condescending.
I am not an incredibly patriotic person. I criticize my country all the time and really see no inherent problems in anyone from any other country criticizing the US.
My point was that-- and again, I am not accusing YOU of this-- sentiments such as yours are unfortunately often accompanied by hypocrisy and blindness about the issues of racism in the writer's own country. That's the only thing I have a problem with, because it is all too common. I have no problem with your or anyone else's criticism of the US, in and of itself.

One of the issues I have with some Americans who use livejournal is the assumption that criticism of the US equals hatred of Americans.
I believe true patriotism is found in wanting a nation to be better, not 'good enough'.
I am a great believer in America. I am passionate about the USA living up to its calling. I believe in America.
But love without reprimand is of little service.
If we didn't care we wouldn't pay attention to the issues.
Peace,
David.
