Everything has been too bright lately, Hibari thought. The sun slowly rises from the horizon, giving warmth to every face, every plant and to all worn-out roofs that its light reaches. He has seen that sun rise for years now, each time blinding him but it feels good on his often out-in-the-cold body. He patrols during the evening when it's chilly, so it feels rejuvenating every time the sun washes him of the cold. The day starts out with a lot of herbivores crowding as they enter the steel gates of Namimori Middle School. He could hear their boisterous laughter and annoying chattering. They waste too much energy, Hibari thought. At that same moment, he saw one of the students throw a carton of mild near the bushes. "Filthy herbivores! I'll bite them all to death!!" Hibari murmurs. He takes out his tonfas and prepares to leave, to kick some herbivore's gut.
As he was about to turn, his vision turns to black and he could feel hands covering his eyes. Out of instinct, he swings his tonfa to the back and hits the infiltrator on the stomach. He hears a soft gasp and a thud. When his eyes are finally free, he turns around to see a blonde man on the floor, clutching his stomach trying to soothe the pain. He found the picture quite amusing. The sunlight hits the blonde man's hair and it turns into gold, brightening the room even more. "I'll bite you to death!" was all he said.
He is a bit irritated and annoyed. One, because of the intimacy the Cavallone dared to show towards him and two, him missing the chance to beat someone up. The Cavallone had pulled out his puppy eyes to save himself for it was one thing he knew Hibari couldn't resist. But still, he manages to smirk at the Cavallone who was still in pain, but now he was sitting in one of the olive green couches inside the reception room.
"Why are you here?" He asks bluntly to get this over with. "Well...I'm here to see you Kyouya!" the other answers. "If that is so, then leave." He stands up and walks toward his table.
He knew that it would take a long time to get the Cavallone to leave. He had that persistent attitude that makes him really annoying. "But Kyouya! I just got here..." "That does not concern me." He answers harshly with a glare. Just before he turns his head to face the stack of papers in his table, he catches a glimpse of the Cavallone's face. A look that he has never seen before and something pinches him deep within. He ruffles the papers as to skim over it and to divert his attention.
At the corner of his eye, he sees something move, and then hears the door open and then close. He looks at his watch as to not appear that he was looking to who came in or who just got out. For a second, he was stunned and then he regained his composure. He did not expect that to happen. Cavallone actually did his request, no that was not it. Cavallone actually followed his command. Only herbivores would be so low as to ask for requests. Well not that it really bothered him, it was actually more peaceful with him gone.
Silence.
That face flashes back at him. He was not worried, he was intrigued. The blonde mas had always been full of smiles, laughter, clumsiness, noise and joy, so this one truly was not on the menu. The face flashes back again & again and he tries to solve the puzzle behind it.
The look obviously wasn't happy, didn't look like worried, not at all angry, it was far away from blank and so he finally deduced it to be one thing. Hurt. Hurt was brutal. It surfaces in the face of pain. Physical pain, he thinks, is pretty amusing and exhilarating. He ponders. Could it be? Has someone beaten him up brutally more than I have?
He feels a pang of anger and jealousy. I am the only one who will defeat the Cavallone boss, Hibari thought to himself. He made sure to take note that he will beat up the blonde man when they see each other again just to make his point and mark his property.
The face flashes back at him again. This one lasted longer than it usually did so it gave him more time to focus on it. Out of nowhere, he feels something squeeze inside him. It feels tight and disheartening. The flashback made him think deeper. He noticed that the face the Cavallone boss has when they're fighting, and on the verge of collapsing, was totally different to the one stuck on his head. It wasn't physical pain then so what was it? He was no longer intrigued, but disturbed.
He noticed that half an hour has gone by since a certain someone left. He hated the thought that he actually was slacking off. He can always excuse himself from class so he decided to do some extra patrolling off campus as to act as punishment.
It surely was a warm day for summer, he thought. Walking through Namimori District, he notices a couple of thugs crowding and so he breaks them, literally. This is his territory so everybody in it has to obey his rules. As he spots another group of herbivores ahead, his gaze is redirected onto a scene which is all too weird.
He sees Dino Cavallone, standing in front of a flower shop, holding a bunch of sunflowers and just staring at them, with that face. The blonde man notices me staring at him and pulls out a smile. It's not his usual smile; it's more gentle and serene but filled with something else, hurt.
He felt a bit worried, just a little bit. A question pops up in his head, since when have I started caring for this man? Noticing every detail and change he has every time he comes over to my office. His thoughts are broken, he didn't notice that the Cavallone had already made his way towards him and now stands in front of him.
"Kyouya, why are you here? Don't you have class?"
"I can get out of class when I want to." My gaze then rests upon the sunflowers on his hand.
"Oh!Is that so?"
He notices me looking and makes that face again. I'm beginning to hate it since every time it appears; something starts to hurt inside me too.
"Wanna grab a bite with me Kyouya?" I just nod.
It was weirder since I nodded before I even had time to think about the invitation. It was like someone was controlling me.
We go to a restaurant and order. There are not much people around. I then spot the sunflowers, yet again, I can't seem to pull my gaze away. Cavallone notices.
"What is it Kyouya? Are you allergic? You don't like flowers?" What a stupid question, so I don't bother to answer.
Silence takes over. It's deafening.
"Ummm...not really for anyone." the blonde man seems not in the mood to talk.
"I don't hate flowers." I finally blurt out.
The other smiles, somehow the whole room brightens.
"Kyouya, actually these flowers are my mother."
Shock. I tried to hide my surprise, but I fail.
"Ahahaha!! Not literally. My mom used to plant them and when they're fully grown she gives them to me. She said that sunflowers can take all of your sadness away. Just like the sun's warmth, it soothes you. That's why they're similar in shape."
"It's been a long time since I've held one. Since she passed away, sunflowers would just remind me of the pain & mourning. It's her 10th Death Anniversary today."
I look at the man in front of me. His once lively face is now filled with hurt and sadness. His honey colored eyes turn into a dull yellow.
After hearing that story, I feel hopeless and it makes me feel agitated. I can feel the squeezing inside me again.
Why am I hurt too? This has completely nothing to do with me. If only he'd stop doing that.
"Stop making that face!!" I spit out.
"What face Kyouya?"
"You know what I mean. Stop making that face!"
"Kyouya I don't know what you're talking about."
"Do you know how much it hurts me when you make that face?!!" I say angrily.
Cavallone's eyebrows narrow down, looking at me suspiciously. After a while, it relaxes and I can see a smile so wide plastered on his face.
"What?" I asked annoyed and uncertain.
"Why does it hurt Kyouya?"
"I don't know. You should know. You're the one responsible."
"Hmmmmm...." Cavallone just smiles there like an idiot.
"Fine, then I'll just have to make sure that you don't make that face in front of me."
He stands up and leaves for the door.
"Kyouya! Come back! The food hasn't even arrived yet."
"I have class." He then walks off.
On the way back he wonders how he'll be able to stop the Cavallone from making that face. He walks through Namimori District, once more scanning the surroundings before going back to school. He then stops in his tracks. The flower shop was still open.

It's another morning where the sun rises to give warmth. The herbivores get their asses kicked and Hibari standing by the window on alert. The door slowly opens; he spins around to see the Cavallone. This time with a smile, just a smile. Nothing added or mixed. My plan worked out quite well. Hibari thought.
"Cavallone! I have business with you."
"What is it about?"
He asks with innocence. He doesn't know what's in store for him this afternoon.
"Rooftop. Now. I have to make sure that I mark my property."
Hibari grins that evil grin.
"Kyouyaaaaa! Come on! I just got here."
The other calls out his name and he feels warm all over.
Sunflowers. I guess they come in different shapes and sizes. Hibari smiles inside.
