"given the raptures undergone by seemingly everyone as the trilogy has progressed,"

Really? Maybe I'm mis-remembering it. I guess I'll have to re-read books 1 and 2 before moving on to 3.

Yeahhhhh, I am skeptical -- I have a vague memory of reading part of book one and not being entranced? -- but people seem to be super into it, so thought it was worth another shot. We'll see.

Fascinating! I will add the Golem and the Jinni to my reading list for sure! I thought the cover looked cool

If you're looking for book recs other than Captive Prince, Goblin Emperor has such a sweet protagonist but took me a little while to really get into. But I'm about halfway through gorging on reading Naomi Novik's Uprooted, which is soooo entertaining (female author and main character, and a wonderful friendship between two female characters). Wonderful world-building and addicting writing.

Yes, I really enjoyed Uprooted! Glad you are too. Sweeps you right along.

Thanks for the note about Goblin Emperor as well. I'm going to pick it up from the library and see how it goes.
