Reading Watchmen for the first time, which gives me a good excuse to post this:

Though reading it I can't help feel that I'm doing it all backwards. I saw the film first, and haven't really read any of the older superhero stuff that the book is deconstructing, instead it's been the dark and gritty stuff that came after this. But that's not ( Read more... )

I love the saturday morning watchmen it's so well done. I have to say while Alan Moore is my favourite comic book writer i don't care much for his superheros. I thought watchman was ok, but like you have never really been a big fan of superhero comics so thought it was all a bit blah. I really do love V for Vendetta and From Hell and more recently the League of extraordinary gentleman.

My only experience of him previously has been the derided movie adaptations of his stuff, so I've Been Doing It Wrong.

My sister is always on at me to read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, so I'll probably be reading that soon if her boyfriend will let me borrow it.

The movies totally don't count! I couldn't bring myself to read League for a long time because the trailers for the movie looked so bad, I couldn't figure out why Dorian Grey had magical powers! Then I remembered it was a movie based on an Alan Moore comic and would have nothing to do with the comic, so tried them anyway and loved hem!

It's just full of so many literary references it's brilliant! So many of my favourite Victorian and Edwardian authors get a mention. And the Black Dahlia has a Jeeves/Lovecraft crossover which is AMAZING!

I was stupid and watched the entire thing *shudders*. In my defense, it was on the movie channel and I was very bored, but yeah, awful movie.
