You Can't "Just Breathe" When You're Plastinated

I finally saw Body Worlds on Friday. Ooooh, ahhh. It was very cool, very artsy, very beautiful. I didn't find it remotely creepy, a feeling I'm choosing not to address right now. The bodies are so unlike living humans that you would need to continually hit yourself on the head with a mallet reading "These are real people" to even remember. I'd love ( Read more... )

It's around until January. There's still time.

Now I'm totally trying to evaluate whether I'm a penis giggler or not, cos I've been dying (bad pun?) to see that.

And! If you had to recommend one book for a person who doesn't know much at all about knitting and wants to learn, what would it be? I'm in need of a hobby that doesn't involve a computer, and knitting seems perfect. I can sit on my ass and the end result will be scarves! Glorious multitudes of scarves! >.>

Your best bet is hitting up a store like Michael's and looking at the collection of learn to knit manuals/booklets. Most of them have awesomely goofy names ("I Can't Believe I'm Knitting!" "Learn to Knit in Just One Day!"). My favorite book of that type is "First Steps in Knitting," but YMMV. Just flip through the selection and see which one appeals to you.

You might also look into classes in your area or see if you know someone who could show you the basics. *cough, cough*

I ended up taking a field trip to JoAnn Fabrics this morning, bought "My Knitting Teacher" which came with needles! and four whole bonus patterns! And then I cried a little when I couldn't figure out the diagrams. I mistook the person's fingernail for a piece of yarn and for ten minutes I was like BUT I DO NOT HAVE A PIECE OF YARN THERE WAILS.

Teach me! My mom tried to, but turns out she learned a while ago and ended up just as confused as I was. It was a fun day.

I had "My Knitting Teacher," too. Don't give up on knitting just yet. I may be a full-fledged knitter now, but it took me a very long time to pick up. Ask me about my first project ("Square for Warm Up America") sometime.

I would be happy to help; name the time and the place.

On an unrelated note, I bought a new CD! I can't remember the last time I did that.

I hardly ever buy CDs, mostly because whenever I do, other people steal them. These persons in question tend to call it 'borrowing', but it amounts to the same thing.

I suppose I should be flattered that I consistently pick albums that people covet--but I'm not. Not really. 'Cause I'd rather have the music, quite frankly.

I, too, seem to have fewer CDs than when I left for college. I don't know where they've gone, but the thought of buying replacements makes me cranky.
