So it's been almost two weeks since Part 1 of the finale aired on BBC1 and BBC America, and thus I think it's safe to talk about nomenclature

I've never really participated here and I don't even ship Doctor/Master in the ''traditional'' sense of the term, but I'd have to agree with Gomez!Master.
Of course, I'm not sure I'm yet buying Time Lords as a fully post-biological species because then we'd already have seen a roughly 50/50 variation in regeneration. It would make perfect logical sense that they were, but so far all 12 Doctors have been male, for instance. There is, of course, a perfectly doylist explanation for this, but a watsonian one would be interesting. My headcanon so far is that the majority of them have a fairly ''fixed'' (cis) gender-identity but that there are exceptions. Like humans, mostly.

There is, of course, a perfectly doylist explanation for this, but a watsonian one would be interesting. Oh I'd think that a lot of bio-engineering would be the only way to explain how few Time Ladies there are? I mean either that or there's more a even split but we don't see it in the Corridors of Power bc sexism? But anytime there's a group scene that's not explicitly coded Cabinet Meeting, it's so 90% Male TLs that I find it hard to think they don't rig the selection process...
It could be that they're actually a pretty sexist/patriarchal society. I mean, it's usually assumed in fandom that they're not, but we haven't seen any evidence that they're particularly egalitarian as far as gender goes. Your explanation makes a lot of sense, too, seeing as they'd probably be more than able to do that.
For now, I'm going with the rather-patriarchal-society-with--and-gender-switching-being-rare explanation.
Ah yeah, I see what you're saying about regens--but I think you could achieve that effect with engineering... there again, how wildly the Doctor regenerates seems to be a kind of Problem for people, and his lack of control over it as compared to Romana's is interesting. And even when the Master /steals/ a random body, he makes it /like him/, or he can choose to be 'young and strong' and parallel himself with the Doctor--so my headcanon is that the ability to control one's regenerations is like, good breeding, even as IRL the ability to control one's body is so important to performing class. Thus the Doctor's uncontrollable swings would be gauche or subversive, and the Master would be better at performing that display of control/civility/reliability/class.
Gomez!Master Twelve/Gomez!Master is good, now that you explained the logic. I mean, I do tend to use 'Missy' a fair bit, but yeah... it's not necessarily her/his/their name or anything. In fact, it's sorta like she/he/they gave themselves a cutesy nickname. XD
And all this gender discussion reminds me of the kink meme fic I've been planning on writing for, like, years (http://best-enemies.livejournal.com/13938.html?thread=5410674#t5410674). Remember that prompt? The idea is still percolating in my head, and Gomez!Master's existence has sorta helped me clarify it more.
Sorry for not responding faster! My computer randomly decided to make LJ inaccessible to me and I had to do a ton of stuff to fix it.
:D Nice.
Not that weird. Haha, I think it'd be weirder if my ideas radically changed in this amount of time, actually. Like, I'm still the same person, after all. XD But yeah, the idea has went through changes too, with canon and with increasing knowledge.
And I'm glad you still think it's good. :D I posted on the kink meme to ask if the original anon still was in the fandom/into the idea, but got no response from them so far.
You didn't even take any time!! I have yet to answer emails from /May/. At LEAST.
I mean given LJ Death et al... I wouldn't be surprised if the person was gone. But I think if you want to do it you should just go for it--though it IS weird and dispiriting that there are so few people around to talk to about stuff now, and I know a lot of people are like 'write for yoursellllllf' but that reeeealy doesn't work for me as a model of writing. I can't even make dinner for myself lol. If I'm alone, cereal time, if aralias is home, ROAST CHICKEN O_O.

Oh my Rassilon, thank you! This whole thing the Master changing their name to Missy/the Mistress was a plot device, not (necessarily) Moffat being sexist. Really, how dumb would it have been for the character to say, "I'm the Master!" from the get go? It's an alias, which we all know the Master has a history of using. But, Moffat haters gonna Moffat hate, whatta ya gonna do? Now that the secret is out, however, I think everyone's just going to refer to Gomez's character as 'the Master'.
Side note, I think Missy is a really cute nickname, though. And the ship name Twissy is adorable! Almost as adorable as Dashing Velvet (Five/Ainley).
i think "Master: Gomez" and "Pairing: Twelve:Gomez!Master" are perfect tags. she's referred to as "missy", "the mistress" and "the master" during the course of the two-parter, so going with the one that offers consistency with other tags for navigation on this site makes total sense to me.
also, "twissy" is the literal worst ship name i have ever heard, and it's eight thousand ties worse when you realise that people could be tagging the ship as "DISTRESS" instead. COME ON, PEOPLE. i am disappoint. >:(

Oh yeah! Weird how one's ideas... don't change much in two years, I was like 'still agree, old self. Still agree.' Yeah that'd be cool to see!
