A combination of getting short layers on top (which gives my thick, heavy hair some lift!) and Aveda Phomollient mousse. My stylist uses it on me and it works.

total yes on the short layers on top (reminds me of a post i have to make actually! lol). i just got a paul mitchell extra body hairspray that is pretty good. it has a very fine spray and doesnt give your hair that hard crispy look. its also not sticky and you can still run your fingers through your hair. it doesnt have great hold in my opinion but it def helps in giving you that teased look.

If she has a lot of hair agree that layers are probably the way to go, though just in case she has thin hair, too many layers tend to make thin hair look thinner.

I use a combination of products/techniques for my hair. It's pretty thin and flat... so this might be on the extreme side! lol :) This is what I do:

1. Apply mousse or rootlifter to the roots, and a thickening spray all over
2. Blow dry upside down until it's about halfway dry
3. Section off the top/bottom of my hair and blow dry with a round brush, curling the bottom for added volume
4. Tease a little bit at the crown, set teased areas with hairspray
5. Thin mist of hair spray all over.

After I blow dry and tease it, I try not to touch my hair too much -- that just deflates it. Of course, this does take a lot of time and I don't do it every day, but when I want volume, it works. :) Hope that helps!

Lately I've been using herbal essence body envy 2&1 shampoo. after washing my hair, I spray garnier frutis volume xxl spray on my roots and the ends of my hair. then I comb it through with a wide tooth comb and blow dry my hair upside down. I have extremely long hair so I use a brush to help dry the ends by brushing it as I dry it. once it's dry still keeping my hair upside down I use herbal essence body envy hair spray. it's a fine mist so it's not crunchy and you can still run your fingers through your hair. I spray it on the ends of my hair lifting up sections, then I turn the dryer back on low setting and dry the hair spray for a few secs. after that I flip my hair up, part it, comb through it again and spray it again. my hair looks really thick & volumed the rest of the day.

I spray Bumble & Bumble Thickening spray all over, work John Frieda's Luxurious Volume through my hair, and blow dry.
