Thanks for the info.!

From what I understand, wraps are a strengthening covering that goes on an unfiled nail with glue and then is sealed with gel, and they come in pretty inexpensive kits, so I thought about giving it a shot. My nail beds are full of ridges and things from accidents and, like you said, I'm still a nail-biter and need a cure (if it takes 12 weeks to be officially cured, according to 'Allure', I'm halfway there).

I'm thinking about doing it--curing the habit at this point is probably more important than having superhealthy nails. Anyway, thanks again for the help! :)

False nails will damager your nails fo' sho'. My mom owns a nail salon and so I've pretty much experienced everything first hand, beginning all the way from biting my nails to little stubs. It takes a LONG time, but eventually, if you allow it, your nails will grow out long and strong (like mine did!).

Upkeep is hard with false nails as well. It also costs money (about $20 every couple weeks, as someone mentioned). Sometimes they break off, you pick them off, sometimes you don't have time to get them redone and they generally ruin your nails. If you're down with all that and think you can maintain them, then there's nothing holding you back. I know many women whose false nails look stunning because they are able to get them done regularly and maintain them.

I eventually let my nails be by painting them nice colours and designs and they were so pretty that I hated it when the paint chipped off if I ever bit them. The polish would also chip off in my mouth, yech.

Sorry about the novel!

Thanks for the novel! :)

I'm having good luck by keeping my nails painted but, never having had nails before (I started biting when I was eight) I've now begun using them as tools, which I guess is a big no-no (all those years of saying to people, 'Can you open this for me? I don't have nails'! lol!) and I want to strengthen them a bit. Plus I'm devoting far too much time to trying to keep them pretty when I've just used them to pry open a box and all the polish's chipped off.

From the stuff I got on the internet, wraps shouldn't be terrifically damaging ...erm ...I think they're a bit like glue-on nails except they're a layer of silk or fiberglass that's glued on and then covered in gel that don't lengthen your natural nails or anything like that, just 'strengthen' them...? I know the glue could be a bit drying but the kits I saw looked pretty easy and apparently if you want rid of them you just soak them off in acetone-based remover?

I'm a DIY beauty freak, so I might give it a go.

Thanks again for the help :)
