It's only just now, however, that I'm noticing a definite increase in the amount of hair that I shed. I'm at the hair length and color that I want, now I just need help on keeping my thick hair the way it is even with its length ( Read more... )

Stress can often cause one to shed more hair. If you think that might be a cause, try relaxation techniques and pamper yourself. Exercise, take your vitamins (especially B vitamins).

I've been growing out my hair for about a year now. When I started growing out my hair, it was about an inch long, now it's BSL, and initially i thought it was shedding a lot more too, but it isn't it's just more noticeable. Everyone's hair sheds. Dark, long hair is going to be more noticeable around your house, on your hairbrush, etc than short hair. If you're really worried, make sure that you're eating a healthy, nutritious diet, taking a multivitamin daily, and that you're not excessively stressed out about your life.

ugh i've noticed that my hair's been shedding more too now that's it's longer, i'm growing mine out as well. i probably need to actually take my vitamins though (vegetarian) - my friend told me her hair's grown a ton faster now that she's actually been taking hers on a daily basis.

Here are some tips for natural remedies:

I'd also suggest a weekly hair mask (if you have dry hair) or a protein treatment to keep it strong. And, don't brush your hair while its wet, ever! Use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers to detangle, and wait until its dry to brush.

Second the not washing hair everyday suggestion. And try switching to a sulfate-free shampoo to prevent even more damage.
