chipping nail polish!

Mar 24, 2008 14:44

argh! every time i paint my nails they chip the NEXT DAY. the only polish i have or use is opi, so i'm apparently using a good quality polish. i don't want to change brands anyway because i love their colors, so i was wondering if there were any miracle top and or bottom coats to prevent immediate chipping like this??

thanks!

manicures, nail polish

I have this really good topcoat from a natural nail care clinic I go to called Colorfix that I love, but I think it only works with their special nail polish.

I have Seche Vite topcoat and my nails never chip when I use it. I need to repaint them because they are growing out at the bottom before they chip.

are you painting thin layers on? are you using a base and top coat? what time of day do you usually paint them? i have been painting mine like an hour before bed. i sit in my bed and watch TV and let them dry because if i do it during the day i WILL smudge them. then i sleep and it has another 9 hours to set before i get up the next day and go on with my life. my manicures last for usually a week or so. are your nails really long/brittle? mine are fairly short and i feel like this helps my mani too :) HTH

I had exactly the same ritual and mine lasted 5-7 days. Just make sure you really have that hour before bed otherwise you get sheet imprints on them.

i don't use a top coat or bottom coat, i just put thinner layers on. i don't paint my nails, either [just my toes!] but chipping your nail polish also depends on how you walk / use your hands - just try to be careful! really the only nail polish i use is L'Oreal's caught red handed [a red with almost a golden sheen to it] and it lasts for a little over a week most of the time =]

like everyone's already said using a top coat and a base coat will help :]
try buffing your nails before painting, i find the polish adheres better
i use sally hansen diamond something nail strengthener [i don't really need it since my nails are pretty strong, but it's a pretty runny formula that dries instantly and lasts a while] and paint 3-4 thin coats of color, followed by a top coat of the same sally hansen stuff
i only use opi polish and on me it lasts at least a week
