I don't think it's harmful per se, but last time I tried Biotin it made me break out like crazy.

I read your previous post about hair falling out. Unlike you, I have very thick hair, but still, a lot comes out, especially in the shower...not so much that it's thinning itself, but enough to irritate me.
I tried a shampoo and conditioner called Nioxin and it REALLY REALLY helped and I lose a lot less now.
It's pricey, but you can get it at Ulta or Trade Secret (and salons, of course for even more $).

You cannot overdose on Biotin, any quantity that your body does not absorb actually filters out of your system through urine. So don't worry there. Also, it will take a while for the effects of biotin to be noticeable. One thing you may notice is that your nails will become stronger and grow a little faster than they had before.

I would go ahead and stay on the dosage you have now, and see how your body reacts to it before upping the amount of biotin you take each day.

I'm 15 and I take 300mcg. I've been taking it for almost a month, and it helped A LOT with my skin and nails (my face has never been this clear before! :]). My hair is also growing pretty fast, but my hair grows fast naturally. I'm not really sure if this will help you a lot, but I'm 15, so I can show my experience? haha

My dermatologist recommended an over the counter Rogaine scalp drops. I bought the drugstore brand and applied it morning and night. My hair did grow back.

My hair loss was due to thyroiditis. The doctor said hair loss may also occur due to the body having a problem absorbing iron (which does not mean you're not ingesting enough iron)

When I asked about biotin, the dose she recommended was 1000 mcg (micrograms) 3 times a day with meals. She also said it affected nails more than it did hair growth.

This is only one doc I got this info from.

3 times a day of 1000mcg, which means 3000mcg a day? yeah, i noticed a lot of people notice differences in their nails more than in their hair.

I heard once you start on Rogaine, you cannot stop or hair will fall out again. :\ idk how true is that, but what do you think? My mom doesn't want me taking Rogaine because she believes in 'natural' products and...stuff, so. 8|

My dermatologist specifically stated 3x a day. There are 5000mcg bottles available. I didn't ask if the 1000 mcg 3 times was because the body can only absorb a certain dosage in the span of 8 hours.

My hair started falling out in June. I applied Rogaine from September onward. I have stopped the Rogaine for a month. I have not noticed any extra hair fall out. Mine is shoulder length, so it would be noticeable. I had two large bald spots, and they filled in with the application of Rogaine. They're growing hair nicely.

On the natural front here's a recipe with an essential oil blend.
