No-poo!

Oct 15, 2010 20:13

I am considering going no shampoo/conditioner due to the texture of my hair and the way it behaves with any shampoos. My hair is thick-ish and wavy, and gets dry at the ends. I wash it every 2-3 days because it was long and annoying. I recently cut it, so it will be easier to manage ( Read more... )

There are really no set rules; you have to just keep adjusting the schedule with what your hair seems to need. Experimentation is the key. Plus if you use additional hair products and outside weather conditions are going to affect this as well.

Good luck!

I don't personally have much experience with no poo, but I do know that baking soda dried the hell out of my hair when I used it to try and get dye to rinse out faster, and my hair isn't coarse at all. I feel like it wouldn't fair so well with coarse hair.

I wash with conditioner almost every day. My hair gets greasy fast, even with no shampoo or sulfates. I recommend ACV rather than baking soda, & I wouldn't use it all that often. Once every 2 weeks, or every week.

A lot of people say to only use the ACV on your ends. Do you think it's okay for all over? I only really get oily at the roots.

It's the same for me & I use it on my roots. I pour some in a cup, add water, then dump the whole thing on my head, starting at the roots.

I was always under the impression that the "no poo" method means no shampoo ever. Not necessarily no showering or conditioner.

I stopped using shampoo a few months ago. I have an oily scalp and HAVE TO shower every night. I only use conditioner everyday. Every 2-3 days, I scrub sugar into my scalp to substitute shampoo. That helps clean my scalp. I use apple cider once every 1-2 weeks to help with the shine. After about a week, I saw a huge difference! My hair is no longer frizzy! I get compliments all the time, my curls retain their ringlets ALL DAY LONG! I love it.

Of course, everyone has different hair and will react differently. It's all about experimenting and figuring out what works best for you. :)

This is me, in case you're curious:

I just used it like I used my shampoo/conditioner. Every second day...Baking sode + water mix and then rinse with ACV. It seemed to work (I have fine hair, but lots of it and it's naturally wavy/curly), but I went back to shampoo and conditioner because it was more convenient for me.

My scalp doesn't get too oily, and I found I needed very little baking soda in the mix to control the greasiness. Definitely dried out my scalp. The ACV helped.
