Argh. Still lifes are the worst, man. Did they teach you that trick about holding your pencil in front of you to measure the distances between things? That helps me a lot.
No, they never taught me that, but sounds like a good thing to keep in mind. I wish I'd known about it when I was younger, too;;;; proportions used to be really difficult for me, esp. on a piece I looked at for too long.
oh, bah. >_< Basically, the technique is thus- hold your pencil or paintbrushout as far from your face as you can. Then, use it to compare distances. Like, for instance, seeing how the angle of one box compares to another, or seeing if the width of a box is the same or half that of the space between to other boxes. Sounds weird, but it helps because it puts things into perspective, no pun intended. :3
Even with that, however, I'm horrible at drawing boxes. Give me curvy plus-sized models! They're fun to draw. :D
Yeah... my class was totally bewildered when the teacher made us pain in Drawing II. First off I was pissed because I can't paint for who knows what. But honestly sculpture sounds so much fun, especially since it's about lines and you were doing lines. We just did gesture after gesture drawing. As long as we drew lines going across the object we were pretty much clapped on the back.
Awesome teapot... I like it. The broom and chair is also good. :D The boxes... I can't appreciate charcoal. I'm a neat freak even in art... most of the time at least. :(
I think it looks like great fun. Especially the wire tea pot thing! It almost appears to be some kind of exercise for you to when drawing...have the lines firmly in your head. 3D drawing practice! In...actual 3D!
I dunno. That's the kind of BS reason I'd come up with if a student asked why they had to -do- it.

Not that you needed to make kitchenware out of wire to reach your level of skills. You and your talent, mang.
