The Ninth Doctor soundof_drums October 22 2008, 20:42:04 UTC
Character Name: The Doctor (NUMBAH NINE)
Series: Doctor Who
Warden or Inmate: Warden
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Very.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: ABSOLUTELY ACTIVE.
Why do you want them?: Because the Ninth Doctor is a character I've played before, genuinely enjoy playing, and I've been looking forward to the opportunity to play him with an active Rose and Jack.
Potential Concerns: ...I already play the Master. Which would make it awkward. Also, I already play Major West, so I'd be playing MY OWN TWIN AND MY OWN ARCH-ENEMY. Plus, I fear seeing a Doctor would discourage other Doctor RPers, and I'd REALLY like to see a Doctor who isn't... me.

Most of the forums I've seen that character on, seem to have simultaneous different incarnations of them, so, don't think discouragement would be a problem.

I do see your own simultaneous portrayal of the Master as a very unavoidable obstacle, however!

Yeah... the simultaneous portrayal of the Master alone is enough to put me off playing him entirely. It's not working out so well at Poly, after all XD

This is a tricky one because I think you'd do a wonderful nine, and I think he'd be a joy to have on the barge, I even think that if there was another Doctor on board then there wouldn't be too much of a problem with the Master, because other Doctor could take the master fire.

Without another doctor however, the Master thing would really be a problem for you to play I think, so for this one I'd say rather than yes or no, just wait! Another Doctor will come! I guarentee that if no one else does, once we're out of port and I'm actually managing to post with my existing people all together then I'll app five.

The Hitchhiker soundof_drums October 22 2008, 20:54:50 UTC
Character Name: Hitchhiker (NO REAL NAME)
Series: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (i.e. the real one, not the remake, so NO I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE WOMAN WHO SHOOTS HERSELF)
Warden or Inmate: Inmate
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: In a... weird way. I don't think he'd use the journals much at all, but he does like to interact with others... in his own insane, eager-to-please (and eager-to-maim D:) way.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: I'd make him active in them, although it'd be a challenge to think up how he'd react to them.
Why do you want them?: He's my favorite character from my favorite horror movie. It'd be a challenge to play somebody who's THAT NUTS but pretty incapable of hiding it, and I really, really love the Slaughterhouse/Sawyer family dynamics. Of course, the family wouldn't be in the game, so there's a problem. But I find him an intriguing character that I want to explore some more.
Potential Concerns: He's a ( ... )

I think the only problem you presented was that you weren't sure he was literate, but given his obscue background, I think you could make it work.

I also think he'd be a great inmate - a real challenge for his warden.

I would kind of love this character to be on the barge because he's so so messed up, and yet at the same time he has like this weird innocense that makes him look like he'd be weirdly rehabilitatable, also, we need to refill our cannibal quota.

On the other hand, the Journals make up so much of the game that having him not posting could be problematic, however it might actually be really interestingto play him that way, no journal, just some randm guy who no one knows because he's never introduced himself, just sort fo lurching out of th ebarge at them and inviting them back for dinner!

I think he'd be really really really hard to play, but I also think that if you did it right he'd be a pretty exciting character to have on board, with a completely fresh dynamic to most of them!

SO. I APPARENTLY SETTLED ON THIS ONE.

Anyway, yeah, he's gonna be a bitch to play, and I think he might comment in other people's journals, but probably won't write very many entries himself (except he'll probably write letters to family). And he's definitely not gonna introduce himself; he'll just act like he's been here for a long time and already knows everybody. If we had like... voice entries somehow, he'd do a whoooole buncha those because he really likes talking to people!

Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) fractured_will October 22 2008, 21:31:52 UTC
Character Name: Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto)
Series: X-Men (film)
Warden or Inmate: Warden, though morally grey.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: Despite his hatred of 'homo-inferior', yes he would interact. I think the journals would amuse him and I can imagine his curiosity over this strange boat of souls.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yup on both.
Why do you want them?: I played him before, last year or some time ago. His personality would be fun to explore and likewise, how long his neutral attitude towards humans could remain 'I'll tolerate you, and not try to kill you'.
Potential Concerns: His entire philosophy is based on the terrors he experienced through the Holocaust so he's got something of a Hitler complex. His film history is intentionally vague beyond the fact that he was a co-founder of Xavier's school and helped recruit students. Beyond that and the events in film, there's not much to go on unless I dipped into ( ... )

He also has kids in movieverse. There's another bit for your history. You can probably infer from there, given his age, how old they are, and that his backstory with Magda likely took place.

I really like the intellectual characters in this particualr forum. The Master, Lector, Marquis, Q and others, all seem to generate a really amusing dynamic. I really think it would be a beneficial character to bring over, although the problem would be in identifying a reason not to simply return him to old motivations, in general.

Also has that interesting mentor personality, which is probably lacking among most of the character cast.

I agree with E and Rei. There are hints in the movies about his background that most people wouldn't get unless they did delve into comic history (or, at least, knew enough about X-Men in general through something like Evolution, like the brief Pietro and Wanda reference in X2)-- which, honestly, if I saw a movieverse Magneto application, I'd rather see dipping into his comic history to fill in the blanks than just making something up. I mean, not with some really outlandish stuff (like Bova), but just some basics, like Magda, the twins, etc.

Barring that issue with his blank-ish history (which I figured would've been filled in in the movieverse novelizations and comics-- wouldn't know, as I haven't read them... I just assume as much), I think Magneto could be a very interesting Warden. He works well as a mentor, and I think he would take the wardening job very seriously.

Pyro soundof_drums October 22 2008, 21:40:51 UTC
Character Name: Pyro
Series: X-Men (I'd either do 616 Pyro or Evolution Pyro)
Warden or Inmate: Warden (possibly inmate for Evo). 616 Pyro redeemed himself before his death; he's gone full circle, so there's no reason for him to be an Inmate. Evolution Pyro, ehh, he's a harder sell either way.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yup
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: God yes
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Very active
Why do you want them?: I've played Pyro for uhhh... what, 8 years now? He's the easiest muse for me to slip in and out of, my favorite character from... well, frankly, ANYTHING ever. I enjoy the depth his character's been given in the comics, and I love the humor of Evolution Pyro. Plus, when I play Evo Pyro, I get a huge kick out of HOW FUCKING ANNOYING HE CAN BE.
Potential Concerns: I've played him for 8 years, sooo there's possible burnout (LOL PYRO? BURNOUT???). Also, not sure how Evo Pyro would fit. I think he'd be a funny Warden, but not a GOOD ( ... )

I personally would reccommend against playing someone you've been playing for so long mainly because of burnout, but this is a personal thing more than a well thought out point on whether he should be on the barge.

Honestly, I personally think that if you can justify him being there and if you love playing him then your reasons for bringing him on aren't that big a deal. We really don't need to be that noble over rpg, and he honestly sounds like he'd be a lot of fun! Also...yes, I love annoying characters quite a lot...

I think out of the three you've put up he's not the one I'd suggest most strongly, but I don't neccesarrily have anything more than a vague and inexplicable sense of favoritism to back this up with, so you should probably ignore it.

Yeah, I'm not really feeling Pyro these days. I think it's more habit and the fact that I'd seen him done so badly elsewhere that I'm afraid that like, if I don't make him unavailable, somebody crappy will apply for him--

Ichabod Crane fractured_will October 22 2008, 21:48:26 UTC
Character Name: Ichabod Crane
Series: Sleepy Hollow (film)
Warden or Inmate: Warden. He's too much a rigid goodie for Inmate.
Do they meet all rules and requirements?: Yes.
Do you think they will be active and interact with others?: His curiosity would get the better of his fears, so in short yes.
Would this character be active in ports and floods, or sit out?: Yup on both.
Why do you want them?: Another muse of old. The duality of his character is quite amusing. Ichabod is a very straight-laced, no frills, The Truth Matters! detective... whilst at the same time prone to fainting, arachniphobia, and in general acting like a teenaged girl. The idea that his mother might've been a witch could also be interesting.
Potential Concerns: Amsuing in the film, but I'm not sure how well he'd fit. His phobias can be almost one-note, kind of lulzy traits. Ichabod might also be too much like Sam, I worry.

Re: Ichabod Crane soundof_drums October 23 2008, 03:21:06 UTC
I think Ichabod would be a great Warden if (it's been a long time since I've seen the movie) you think he could handle the "reformer"/"quasi-therapist" part of the job description XD As it is, I would personally love it if Sam had a kindred spirit here! But anyway, those lulzy traits of his shouldn't be too much of a problem, as you'll be given a chance to explore him in greater depth! Personally, of the three characters you've put up, he looks like the most fun to me!

Coming from someone who plays a character with phobias (granted, over-exagerrated and ridiculous), it's really difficult to always be on the ball with it, and can be really frustrating, especially when you want to do one thing, but your character can't because...oh no! Heights! Spiders! Milk!

If you think you could keep up with it, then I say go for it! :)
