Viz translations of Ulquiorra's dialogue.

Okay, so there's no love lost between Viz and I.  Don't get me wrong, I probably don't hold half as much against them as manga fandom in general does, but they've certainly managed to irk me from time to time.  "Soul Reaper" was as clever a translation of "shinigami" as any, I guess.  I neither loved nor loathed it.  "Doom Blast," however, can ( Read more... )

I'm also of the mind that Viz did a good job of translating Ulquiorra's lines; or at the very least making them sound like things Ulquiorra would say (though it's not like I would know).

However, I found this one line to be hilarious:

(to Nnoitra)"... Jackal."

It just strikes me as strange. XD

It has also always been a bit of a pet peeve to me when translators have him call Orihime "girl" rather than "woman", though I believe the explanation behind that one is that 'onna' can be translated into either one, depending on a certain (unknown to me) factor. I guess it makes sense to call Orihime a girl, but 'woman' is so much more... UlquiHime. Of course. *shipper alert*

Well, there are different words for both, and "onna" is almost always used to mean "woman," but I don't make a federal case out of it. ^^ Orihime's fifteen or sixteen. She's a girl.

Yeah, methinks "jackal" was a bit of a stretch on Viz' part, but ah well. They ARE still Viz, after all.

My problem is that I'm used to the Japanese techinque names though. I won't post a gut over it though. I still buy the Viz volumes though to support Kubo.
