Another undoubtedly unpopular opinion

One of the many things I don't get about popular culture is why joe public reacts the way it does to the death of a celebrity. Isn't it something like 150,000 people day worldwide every single day, one of whom happens to be famous and suddenly the world is ending... yet I don't see the internet mourning the death of everyone else who's died. Who died? Sometimes it is sad that we the public will not get any more of their artistic work like if the famous person is musician or actor or something. That's my only explanation

Amy Winehouse. Which, given her behavior, is not so much a surprise as a foregone conclusion.

I have a friend on Facebook who is trying to make me believe that I'm a cold and insensitive bitch for not being surprised and really not caring that she intentionally offed herself with drugs and alcohol. I'm a sympathetic and empathetic person for people who DESERVE sympathy and empathy, but when you kill yourself for all extents and purposes, don't expect me to sit around and cry and feel bad about it. If that makes me a cold bitch, so be it. /rant.

And you're right, if the breaking news headline was"27 year old drug addict found dead in London flat", nobody would care.

I'm with you on this one. Of course it's sad, especially for the surviving family and friends, but that's the same for everybody else that dies, not only celebrities.

I can only guess that people feel they 'know' celebrities, and that's why they do it?

I was like "oh she died" when my friend told me but I don't think I'm all upset about it. It's sad for her family and friends, but I agree...I don't think the whole world has to mourn.
