30 Days of OTP: Day One, Current OTP
The lovely leobrat invented this OTP Meme and has been teasing me with it for a while now. I have finally succumbed, though I decided to do it in a different order than she did.
Beth Greene & Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead
For years, the only thing I really saw on this show was the character of Rick Grimes. He's by far my favorite and always has been. I have often heard other fans go on and on about Daryl, and while I liked Daryl fine, I was only casually invested in him. His dynamic with the other characters was interesting, but he wasn't Rick, so I never paid tons of attention to him.
But then S4 came along, and there was this simple little scene where Daryl came back from a supply run and had to tell Beth her boyfriend Zach got killed, and she HUGGED him, and my shipper ears perked forward.
It would still be several episodes before anything serious would happen to really get my heart invested in them, but the idea had been firmly planted. Then as fate and plot would have it, these two characters got put together, alone. I got invited to a fic-a-thon, a prompt was given, fic was written, and the obsession became official.
And then the show gave us so much beautiful canon development that I firmly believe they want us to ship them. It's controversial, though. She's 18, he's 35ish. There is another major female character on the show that many fans ship him with (it turns out Daryl is shipped with just about every other character on the show, of course. There is always THAT one, in every fandom, right?), so there are now shipper wars to rival Jack/Kate VS. Sawyer/Kate and Stelena VS. Delena. The fandom's a mess, of course.
