I found that a ring sling was much better for us in the newborn period. I didn't go to our Beco until my son was about 4 months.

There are many brands of ring slings out there. I was gifted a maya and LOVE it. Here's a video from the Maya site about wearing newborns. I am sure there are a million on youtube. :)

I have been wearing my newborn in my Butterfly 2, and she's 15 days old. She is not small- definitely over 9lbs by now- so maybe that has something to do with it? We haven't even used the infant insert because when I put it in, the tape is below the "safe" line (thinking this has to do with her big cloth diaper bum?). Anyway, she's been happy in it, and we both look/feel comfortable.

My first had little tolerance for being worn unless she was asleep, so it may be that your little one just isn't into it at this point?

I used a Beco Butterfly with my 8lb 1 month old DD. One tip is to froggy her legs in there--tuck them up at her sides or even in front of her--newborns' hips just don't have the ability (or size!) to spread around you yet. Of course, my DD hated that, so what I ended up doing for the first few months was just leaving the waistband loose and letting her feet hang slightly underneath it... usually her toes ended up resting somewhere on the waistband and she seemed comfy (no complaints from her, at least. ;-) )

Good luck!

I'd try a different carrier. My personal favorite with newborns is a wrap like the Moby. I didn't try a carrier like the Beco until my son was much older, when he got too big and heavy for the Moby. We used a mei tai from around 5 or 6 months until we got the Beco when he was around 11 months old. We're expecting another child this summer and the Beco probably won't see any use until sometime late in the fall or in the winter when he or she gets too heavy to be worn comfortably in a stretchy wrap.

A Moby is very comfortable with a newborn, although I am not getting as much mileage out of mine as I thought I would with this baby because she wants to nurse when she's in it. A ring sling has worked well for us too. I'm thinking about picking up a Beco when I feel like she's sturdy enough for a back carry.
