AN: An alternative version of what makes Dean break in hell, inspired by a comment giandujakiss made. Dean in hell naturally implies disturbing imagery.
I've always disliked the shot of Dean strung up in hell; it would have been better to show nothing and just have Dean screaming for Sam after the episode cuts off. So I may have been, um, attempting to remedy that.
And there would be an awful but very Winchester-esque irony to Sam damning Dean yet further in trying to save him--love and selfishness and sacrifice--just as Dean has done so much damage to Sam.
giandujakiss's idea just clicked for me. So many horrible things happen because of how the Winchesters love each other, vicious cycles spiraling down. And nothing and no one could even make Dean break as fast or as thoroughly as Sam.
