I got almost an incestuous vibe from Amanda and Darius - that's just how it read to me implicitly - and then, we see that Darius and Daniel are similar physical types, which turns out not to be surprising.
But, yeah, her backstory did explain Amanda's moment of break down/insanity/rage/lashing out at the public wake for the victims - and how she, an accomplished, professional woman could allow herself to be quite that self absorbed in her grief and her subsequent actions when at other points, she is far more intelligent and self contained. It didn't really make sense until that point.
Also, this backstory really does help to explain how she was apparently so unseeing in her relationship with her daughter, and the range of equivocal emotions she has viz. her daughter.
I clearly need an icon for this show, clearly. It's been pretty interesting lately.
I didn't quite catch the Daniel resemblance but the incestuous yearnings, yes. They're almost endemic what with Daniel/Zoe and even Joseph being so much more obsessed with Tamara than his wife. All boundaries being blurred, V-world mores seeping into the real world, anything goes.
