I'm with you on the second and fifth *grins* but 1? Yikes, *steers salad away and grabs pizza* Love my junk food too much for that :)

I still like junk food, just salad more. 2 and 5 - are great tools for my writing - I type quick, I suck a spelling *is dyslexic* I need my spellchecker and I get things muddled so having an outline keeps my mind focused. :-)

I was starting to think I was the only one who outlined too. I think some people think it might take something away from their creative process or something like that.

I like having the plot set down helps me. It's one less thing to worry about and I can focus on dialogue, description and the smaller moments in a story.

If the creative process includes coming to a stumbling, aimless end in the middle of the story and abandoning it in disgust, those people are right!

An overly detailed outline is a bad idea, but something more general is a huge help. It's a balance between being creative and being productive; the main thing to remember is that if the creative process leads you elsewhere, the outline can be changed to reflect that. I suspect a lot of people think of outlines only as those solid, immoveable clunkers they learned about in school.
