The Fall-Out of the Strikethrough

Jun 07, 2007 10:43

You know, it has occurred to me that anyone who forms an LJ after the weekend of May 30th is going to be viewed with a certain amount of suspicion by the rest of us in fanficdom.  Especially with the "friending frenzy" that seems to be going on.  I don't know about the rest of you, but here lately, I've had more anonymous comments than I've had ( Read more... )

It's not just me then. I had a friending splurge with nmaes I've never heard of - if you call 10 folks a splurge. I was initially naiive enough to think it was because of the nc-17 stuff. Two brand new Lj's actually asked me to friend them and there was no other author listed so I wrote back and said unlikely until I knew who they were. It all seems rather suss to me.

So I'm not the only one. That's a relief. And it's good to know I'm not the only one who's being suspicious.

Oh, Happy Birthday yesterday. Your present isn't quite finished, so... be patient a wee bit longer. *smiles*

OMG, you're exactly right. I run hpfamilyfuncest and that week after Strikethrough, I got... oh, hell, probably fifteen to twenty requests for membership. Now, I'm probably the least paranoid person EVER, but this one that signed on (whose name I didn't recognize at ALL) had only that comm friended, plus one friend named Dirty Cunt or something like that. Needless to say, I held off on approving the membership. And guess what? Not two days later the journal was deleted. So yeah, I'm having difficulties with it. And then, there've been a lot of people friending my PERSONAL journal, but thankfully their accounts have all been well-established, and they tell me how they found me. So, whew. But I'm definitely taking a closer look at people, you know?

I had three people request to friend me after that weekend that I kinda looked at and went, "Hmmmmm, dunno about you, think I'll wait," because they were new and there was pretty much nothing in their friends list except, well, ME. And sure enough, two days later, they were gone. Deleted.

Yeah, my Radar has been pinging pretty heavily since then!

Hmm. Bit dodgy.

Bit of caution can't hurt! :)

The trolls, they love teh el jay!

Besides, you might be writing something that someone somewhere will take offense to, and we CAN'T HAVE THAT, NOW CAN WE?!1

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go purify myself.

Just because you are paranoid...does not mean someone is not out to get you.
