Is it really fic amnesty day?

Is it?

Never mind, it's past midnight anyway.

Have some bits and pieces I still like out of a story that didn't work out. (The one that nearly made me quit fanfic entirely.)

I haven't read the long bit yet, but I enjoyed the shorter pieces about their offworld missions.

Yeah, as a whole the big story had too many problems to work, but there were sections that I liked a lot and wanted to use somewhere, but they're never going to fit anything without extensive rewriting, so it's take them for what they are, glimpses of a story that wasn't.

Interesting! I really enjoyed these, even though they all finish right after you start getting into them! 'Upward Over the Mountain' especially - I love 'cut off from Earth' stories, and I enjoy stories where Lantean diplomacy isn't as two-faced and selfish(yet moralistic!) as it always ends up being in the show.

That's the problem with excerpts, they always tease, seldom satisfy.

They're all awesome. Cut off from Earth stories are my favorites and these really catch the flavor of having to survive as a colony.

Just a precaution: are these going to break my heart? Because you know I'm a wuss on certain days. ;)

Then you should avoid Center of the Sun. In the larger story it was part of there was a happy ending, but ends before that on a real down note.

Ah, okay, I'll stick with the other two, then. Thanks for telling me.

I can see how you'd like those bits and pieces: they're very intriguing, and the set-up is great. But I can also see how they'd have the potential to turn crazy-making. Still, it's sad that the story will never be written.

I am pleased that at least some of 'Upward' will see the light of day.

The first part that I put up is -- I'm not ashamed of it. It hangs together. But fixing what went wrong with the rest, no, I don't think so.

I was looking at it last night, reminding myself that a long story can fall apart if you revise too many times and try to stick with canon - then remembered, no more changing canon and I'm doing an au. But, jeez, one hundred scenes? I hope they're short.

100 scenes? Really? *eyes my saved draft hopefully* It didn't fall apart so so much as introduced concepts that needed more flesh. The ending is worth it, I think. I swear, at random times I think about that scene in the bazaar, and tears spring to my eyes.

Err, 100 proposed scenes for the epic au of doom that I'm notwriting. I'm still shuffling them around; it looks like a non linear narrative with multiple povs.
