Oh, you know how I feel about toothache. All manner of good vibes are on their way. *hugs*
And yes, Kevin is one astounding, scary book. We're doing it for bookclub next month, I think, and I can't wait to see what others think of it. It was so gripping yet horrible to read, and the end... Oh, it has to be one of the scariest things I have ever read.
Word of warning: NEVER ever give it to someone who's pregnant. Can you imagine?
It's Monday morning. Wish I was curled up in bed with Jasper Fforde.
I know what you mean about the ending. There were all those little foreshadowing bits and I kept thinking "No, surely not" and then she wrote it anyway. Scary is not the word.
One of the most interesting questions about the whole thing I think is how much influence Eva really had over his behaviour. You can see her oscillating in her narrative from believing that he was just born evil to thinking that it was all her fault and back and forth again. I'm not sure that I've made my mind up about that one. And of course it's all tied up with how reliable she is as a narrator which makes it even more complicated.
Yes! it's full to the brim with knotty questions. I can't wait until we do it for bookclub (although I think I need to re-read, which isn't really a happy prospect). Plus, the group has a few psychologists in it, so I can see that we'll be discussing psychopathy and personality disorders a bit.
Bah to the toothache. Hope it's sorted now and that you enjoyed Jasper Fforde. Which one was it?
I read We Need to Talk about Kevin a few weeks ago. I thought it could have done with a bit of editing; I got fairly bored with it until about halfway through (clearly I just wanted to get to the shocking stuff!). But even though I thought I knew what was coming, she still managed to surprise and move me by the end, which I thought was brilliantly done.
Didn't exactly inspire me to have kids, though - talk about every woman's nightmare!
Jasper Fforde is always a good tonic for bad things, I find. It was Something Rotten in actual fact - I was looking at that picture that you have in your icon just an hour or so ago :)
Oh, and I know what you mean about Kevin making you think twice about having kids. I've never been particularly wild about that course of action in any case but this definitely came down on the "No, I don't think so" side.

And I'm puzzling over "pissing rain" and wondering if it is related to the Texas-ism, "raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock." :)
And thanks for sending Professor McGonagall to the party! :)

Am about to run off back to the party in a minute and see if Minerva is having a good time :D
