Update, a few recs and ruminations on TV

May 19, 2009 20:38

I've been quiet as a mouse recently, barely making a peep online or to my friends. I know I have been particularly remiss here. Blame the start of summer school, a sudden craving to read "real" books (I devoured twenty-three in the last four days) when I read something other than psych files or for school. Before that I'm pointing the finger at ( Read more... )

I can totally sympathize with you on the TV thing. I think the only show I watched regularly after SGA went off the air was Bones ( ... )

It does too suck! It means that I can't actually *enjoy* just sitting and reading fan fiction anymore because I'm constantly correcting them in my head. (It's like the thing you and i talked about "I'm correcting your grammer in my head while you speak")

Legal writing is frustrating for me because we are required to obey certain conventions that I feel are bad grammar or punctuation.

*crosses fingers* Good luck with school and work.

I almost never watch TV anymore. Dropped Chuck after the first few episodes of season two. I watch NCIS occasionally but I missed so many episodes (had choir rehearsals at the same time as the show) that I just fell too far behind with the plot and didn't really care to catch up. (Sort of strange, considering I've been watching the show since the end of the first season.) Watched some House on DVD but didn't like it enough to watch it regularly on TV. Seems like the only thing I do watch is random episodes of Big Bang Theory. All the shows that are now on TV feel like copies of each other (same plot, different title).

Anyways, have you seen No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Big Bang Theory, Firefly, or Star Trek (any of the series)?

My parents like No. 1 Ladies but I've canceled my HBO. I tried one ep but couldn't get into it. Watched Firefly out of duty to Joss Whedon as a Buffy fanatic but truthfully never enjoyed it (although Mal/Inara were a great couple). As a kid I watched Star Trek Next Gen with my big brother. It's such a comfort show for me and I have the whole series on DVD. For some reason never liked the other shows enough to even make it through one full episode.

I am trying to catch up on Big Bang theory but so far like the fanfic better than the show (I am such a dork).

I stop and start on House so I know exactly what you mean.

I wish I could give you an opinion on tv but as it happens I'm so out of every show I used to follow or wanted to follow (apart from "Law & Order:CI", "Shark", "CSI:NY" and a bit of "Life", because those are the ones running on Monday and Wednesday evening... but they're all in German and most of them are reruns) that I have NO idea what's happening right now ( ... )

I love Veronica Mars. So GOOD until the very end when the network tried to ruin it. Samantha Who was cancelled here so don't know how much more you'll get.

I LOVED Men in Trees. I should have added Jack and Marin to my couples meme. Darn.

Come back to Grey's if you like Alex/Izzy. Or at least the season we just finished in the US.

I am very bummed about Life. It was astonishingly good. I'm hoping USA will pick it up. They're owned by NBC and produce almost all quirky character drawn procedurals such as Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Life would fit perfectly.

Makes me wonder... why do they keep on cancelling all the good shows? Seriously, what was so bad about "Veronica Mars" and "Life"? The ratings? The writing? Meh.

BTW, I really loved Jane/Sam in "Men in Trees". The whole way they were written was just... absolutely great. Good example of writing around "Moonlighting" syndrome.
