The concept is very low and embarrassing (the beer thing) but the episode is funny and light and it serves as a connecting point to things to come, as you said.
Maybe it's the fact I'm Aussie. But I never found the idea of Buffy hanging out and drinking embarrassing. I found it a little sad at her reasons for it, but I also think its almost normal to get drunk every now and then, especially in a collage environment.
And then of course she got her revenge on Parker by knocking him out :) .
Yeah, I also consider it normal even though I just don't care for it, I don't consider it fun cause I don't like drinking.
But in Italy, young people have parties just to drink and "have fun" so it wasn't a surprise. The fact that Buffy was doing it was a surprise, for how she is as a person.
I was shocked too - and by the fact that some people read it "straight" that it was preaching against the evils of drinking when in fact it's a satire of same. How can anyone not get that?
