Escapades in Science Fiction

Between my library book sale, my eventual use of my Barnes and Noble gift card, and a trip to the Movie Scene discount VHS rack, I picked up lots of cheap speculative fiction. I will not be bringing all of these to school, so if there's anything in particular you want to borrow let me know or forever hold your peace. Or wait until after fall ( Read more... )

Isn't Speaker for the Dead #2 in the series? Ender's Game, Speaker, Xenophobia? Shadow of the Hegemon in there somewhere (is that #2? i don't know). And Ender's Shadow if you count that.

It is; I fail at reading, and I just remembered the one I had wasn't the next one in the series. Turns out I got Shadow of the Giant. It's a sequel to Ender's Shadow.

I've seen about half of Close Encounters, I think, but I don't really remember much. I do remember wishing I'd seen it through to the end, though, so I probably liked it pretty well.

I've read quite a bit of Piers Anthony, but I haven't read Total Recall. I've enjoyed the stuff I *have* read, though, for what it's worth. : )

Stardust made an awesome movie, but I've heard that the book is written at a surprisingly low reading level. *shrugs* Still probably worth a read, though.

Congrats on your first manga! (Mwaha, you are being brought over to the dark side... *rubs hands together and glances around in a suspicious manner*)

Appended: Okay, so Shadow of the Giant is apparently the fourth book in the Ender's Shadow series. I never actually got to that one - I ran out of steam halfway through the third one - but at least one person on Amazon said it was the second best in the Shadow series (after the original book, of course : ) ).

P.S. Sorry for posting this here second; I saw the Facebook note first...

I picked it up because it was Piers Anthony; I've heard good things about him.

Looks like there needs to be at least one Close Encounters party next year. I still have [Sean Connery]x3 as well if we still want to make a Saturday of that sometime.
