it's mostly quiet here, except for the shrieking kids & the cars playing loud music. the past few years we didn't have any firectackers set off nearby, just kids with sparklers & those little things that get thrown on the ground and snap

Ugh! We had some of the same, but maybe not as bad as you did. Our local fireworks show put on by the city was canceled, so I figure that's a factor.
