A.. census? [ Usagi frowns a little in confusion as she stares at the journal. ]

What's a census supposed to be all about?

A census is to get information on the population. Like... Not only could you find how many people live here, but you could figure out the gender ratio, too.

Realistically, we won't be able to get everyone, but I thought that it'd be nice to get some statistics, even if they may be general.

[ voice ]

Ah, I see! That would be pretty useful, right..? At least I'm sure people like Ami-chan would like that sort of thing..

Um, if you need any more help, I wouldn't mind helping, I guess!

[ voice ]

Haha, yeah! I'm a little surprised one hasn't happened yet because of that. Hopefully it'll all go well, and we'll be able to get answers from at least 80% of the population.

Of course! Um.. my name is Usagi, Tsukino Usagi! Usagi as in 'rabbit', that is.

Tsukino Usagi... Got it! Hehe, you have a pretty cute name, don't you? [a beat, as she quickly scribbles it down.] Anyway, I'm Minako. Arisato Minako! So I take it you're from Japan too?

[ voice ]

Ah, thank you that you think it's cute! You see, there was this super mean guy back home who thought it didn't say 'Usagi' as in 'rabbit', but he thought it said 'pig'! So rude, so rude!

[ She huffs for a few moments, but then smiles again a little. ]

And yes, I'm from Japan! I live in Tokyo, actually.

[ voice ]

Eeeh, really? Considering their characters, they're nothing alike. Maybe he's just teasing you, because he likes you?

It's nice to meet someone else from the same area as me, then! What year were you back at home? It would be even cooler if we were the same age.

[ voice ]

[lunarities]

Teasing me because he.. likes me.. [ At that she goes quiet for a moment, almost slightly sad, but she immediately forces herself to perk back up. ] There's no way that guy would like me, you know. He already has someone he's engaged to.

Hmm, there are a lot of people from Japan here, it's great! And it was 2004 when I was home last.

Engaged, huh? [She considers it for a moment, propping a hand under her chin.] Arranged...?

Ah, that's not so bad. It was 2010 where I last left off! [Her brows furrow, the confusion evident in her tone.] That means we aren't all that far apart, yeah?

[ voice ]

Ah, that's.. I never really got to ask him before I arrived here, I guess. Maybe someday when I'll go back I can do it. [ But from her awkward tone it's not very likely. ]

No, it isn't that far apart! Besides, there are plenty of people who are from much older time than us, I think.

[ voice ]

Well... [Biting down on her lip, judging by her tone of voice it was probably best not to pursue in asking. At least, not with how much she didn't know about the situation.]

Oh, right! I've spoken to someone who was over fifty years in our past back at home. It's kind of strange, especially since I've had to study and learn his era... But thinking about it, it must be a lot more awkward to meet someone from your future; considering how much they know.

[ voice ]

I actually met someone from my future.. My literal future, even! You see, my best friend Ami-chan is from a few years ahead in time in this place.. It's kind of weird to see her all grown up now, you know?

[ She's giggling though. ]

[ voice ]

Haha, really!? My situation's kind of like yours too, except... Not really? I'm actually not sure to explain it. [a distinct pause.] My twin brother's here, except he's basically two years older than me now. It's not because he's from my future, but more of because he's been here for so long? So I get what you mean!

[She's joining in right along with that.]

[ voice ]

Oh, right, right! I get it, even if it's a little different than what Ami-chan and I have since it's shorter and in this place, it's a little the same too.. [ She seems to think about it. ]

Well, it's not like it changes them, right? Ami-chan and I are still just like before!

[ voice ]

I guess! [a beat.] It's a little strange though, honestly. I'm so used to us being around the same height and the same age it's kind of strange to stand next to him sometimes!

And yeah, you're right. They're still them, despite the age differences I guess.
