There are few, if any, other female comic artists who have succeeded on the scale of Takahashi Rumiko. And Urusei Yatsura ("Those Obnoxious Aliens") is where it all began.
The only other female manga-ka/anime creators I can think of with comparably large effects (if not, as of yet, such long careers) are Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon) and Hiromu Arukawa (Fullmetal Alchemist).
UY always left me cold; of Takahashi's output, Ranma was the only one I really was able to watch enough of to bother with.
I was initially measuring success in financial terms.
Having said that I suspect that Takeuchi will prove to be more influential than Takahashi via Sailor Moon influencing an entire genre.
The other influential females I would reference are CLAMP but, much as I love their work, I don't think they've had an individual title on the sheer scale of almost any Takahashi or of Sailor Moon.
Judging by the staggeringly successful English language reissue of the Sailor Moon manga, I would say that Takeuchi-sans influence can now be taken as a given.
I've already heard at least one rumour that a second print run has already been ordered.
