sorry to say but AKB girls do even the 48 management do read comments in the internet. It is said that the term CG for Mayu came from a fan's idea in the internet.
every idols are mysterious but they were tricky; unfortunately modern fans are now wise because of the internet. When I was surfing the net about idols I encountered a forums (can't remember what it is) having debate what idols should be. Nakagawa idol type are the old style idols (H!P and Mostly JE) it is effective in JE side since they can create solid fanbases but when it comes to Girl Idols nah. Transparency is one of the main reason behind the 48 family's domination. The very best example is Sashihara Rino, Because of her hetare, dorky and underdog image the scandal didn't affect her popularity that much it even boost her popularity. Watanabe Miyuki's case is also another example, she is known to be very flirty that is why when her picture with her alleged ex-bf surfaced, her fans just laugh at it and even joked that Milky left her boyfriend because she likes muscular guys. Sato Amina's scandal went like an air, before bunshun posted it, she post in her G+ that she is drunked so her fans were not shocked when her scandal appeared

Firstly, thank you (and everyone) for your response(s)!
So, this is a complicated matter, isn't it. Idol Culture in Japan is quite perplexing. I think that many don't even see their idols as people, which is why their reactions can get out of control. For example, they believe that the idol should cater to them, but it's surely not easy to please every fan, right? Since fans are falling for the image and not the real person, I believe it's best if they could understand and accept the differences between the two. Although I understand why they don't as well.
Shokotan is so cute, the otaku used to eat her up but it seems like she's getting less and less work. She has a pretty good discography too, I should start stanning for her again.
I remember that I really fell for her when she was a guest in "Arashi no Shukudai-kun"! I recently watched her "Live Tour 2011" on "YouTube" and her voice is just awesome!
i remember that :) she was the queen of the nerds back then, but now she's way past the required idol age, idk what she expects. i've always liked her for her love for 80s music, old anime themes songs and all that :)
as for the question, hmmm it's tough. I love when idols share things like their twitters or instagram or short blogs or whatever, I love to see their personalities and little snippets of their lives they choose to share with fans. and I know a lot of idols really do like doing that too, but there are a lot of fans who use those mediums to attack or badmouth the idols, often for arbitrary reasons. I totally believe they are entitled to privacy too, they shouldn't be automatically forced to share everything about their lives, just what they choose to. idk :(

I haven't been following her music recently, but it seems like her image changed a bit as well?
