Yeah, Negima has been around for a while and is done by the same writer who did Love Hina.
School Rumble 2nd Semester is awesome as well, and I've been watching it since the first season (1st Semester.)
Death Note has a movie and manga, but the series aired the first episode last week. It's a very very intellectual anime, and I have no doubt that you and Cody would love it.
Tsubasa Chronicle is a crossover series, and really wasn't very entertaining to me. It's all about Clamp series, so you get things like Card Captor Sakura meets X/1999 and Magic Knight Rayearth.
Something else to check out would be Ergo Proxy. It just finished up and was one of the most mentally stimulating things I've ever watched, more so than even Evangelion. Mostly because Eva can be interpreted in so many different ways, but Ergo Proxy has only one interpretation. That makes it more reasonable for the audience to be able to follow it. There's references to the likes of John Lock, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and others.
