Somewhere Under a Heap of Kitschy Figurines, The Estate in Sidra, Sunday Fandom Time

Nov 17, 2013 16:23

For the record, Jono adored kids. He really did. Even when he had to put up with a small pack of the little beasts for four solid days thanks to the time difference between Fandom Island and Kaeleer, he adored them. Even after four days of running laps around a bloody mansion, four days of trying to pick up on second languages he couldn't even ( Read more... )

There was giggling from under the table from someone sugar-hyped. Wearing armor.

Shush. It was too armor.

"I think," Jono noted, attempting to wriggle a hand and wincing at the sound of a figurine going thump against the floor, "that's pretty thoroughly been taken care of already, Sergeant Sunbeam."

Dinah liked that name. It was tough but pretty. "If you break too many, then we have to start over, prisoner. Unless you confess and tell us where the rest of the cookies are!"

Of course he'd hidden cookies, he was a grown-up.

"They're locked away in the pantry," Jono replied, praying to whatever deity-like force the Darkness was supposed to be that this was only a weekend-long thing back on the island. "Protected by the most fearsome guardian Kaeleer has to offer."

Because really, had the kids met Cook? She let Jono in to make steak and potatoes on occasion because he'd proven that he could actually operate a stove without burning the building down, but there was a very finite list of people who got to do that much, and the tiny children were very firmly not on it at the moment.

Encouraged by Momoko, Raven had been experimenting with "playing," unfamiliar with it as she was. She hadn't joined in in piling the figurines on Jono, since she'd always been taught to respect her elders, but she had found two horse figurines to play with.

She'd named them Sparkleface and Butterbean.

Warren was another one sitting in the 'respect your elders' camp. Especially since his father was actually here in the Estate this weekend, and he was the one most likely to find himself grounded if he misbehaved.

... Though Lucivar had encouraged him to let his wings show, and his dad hadn't said anything about it yet, so at least he wasn't all squished into a shirt that didn't fit right.

"Hi," he said, inching over to Raven and then taking a seat nearby. "What'cha doing?"

"Hello," Raven said, looking up from the horses she'd been making prance around. "I am trying to play, but I am not very good at it. I have never played before."

Wow. And Warren thought his life was boring.

"Never? Never ever? Do you want help learning how?"

"Aww. You're awake already?" Momoko was totally not pouting and neither was she trying to hide a pair of very ugly and surprisingly not gilded statuettes behind her back. "Have a nice nap?"

"Not as sound as I would've liked," Jono noted, raising an eyebrow at Momoko from where he was firmly trapped in that bloody chair. "But better than I've had for a few days, I suppose."

He didn't want to ask. He didn't want to ask. He...

"What're you hiding?"

"Me? Hiding something? Why on earth would I do that?" She took a seat on a very nice stool, which, of course, meant she had to show the figurines. "Oh. My. Well. look at that. How did those get there?"

"Probably danced there of their own volition," Jono theorized. "That seems to be where so many of these came from, after all."

He was never sleeping around children again.
