Crawl inside the book! (Not literally, although I'm now trying to work out if there's some way one could build a giant book with tunnels inside where one could crawl around and not be seen, and somehow have it remain readable.)

I saw the documentary The Cave of Forgotten Dreams, and they talked about how a lot of the weirdness of the cave-painting style was built around the three-dimensionality of the space and trying to create motion-effects in the torch light, and if you actually go into caves and look at them with the original lighting in the original context this is all totally evident, and I thought it'd be really cool to do something like that with modern subject matters, such as cars and businessmen going off to work and people using computers and things. Only you would probably need to build a cave, because not that many caves are willing to host something like that, hence the plaster and chickenwire.

The wrong kind of irregular shape. (For the effects to be right, it needs to be the correct kind of irregular, like a bumpy, lumpy, smoothish rock irregular, instead of smooth-cylinder-with-distinct-protrusions irregular.)

That part DOES seem like excruciating effort and not as much fun as the painting.

Yeah, and the last artistic crime of the century happened in the 1970s, so we're probably due.
