During the night, the Fuwa disappeared with very little fanfare. They were summoned for the Olympic closing ceremonies and were required to vanish when all the festivities in Beijing ended. So it was the end of them. But they made sure not to leave without wrapping things up.
They had hung medals on the following doors (from the dodgeball game): Gold to Spain, Silver to the USA, awarded for their amazing spirit over the game. No fighting, just playing, as it should have been, and bronze to Turkiye, for despite the fact that everyone wanted to kill him, he maintained the integrity of the game and appropriately chose not to hurt anyone.
All the rooms have been restored to their original decor, no more flags, no more colors. The wardrobes they have stolen have been returned, but at the same time, all the clothing they have gifted remain: all the dresses, all the hats, all the lederhosen and bows. The HQ remains as large and expansive as they had made it - in fact, it's become even larger. There is now a huge indoor pool, a gymnasium, a weight room, an outdoor track, and a soccer field - each decorated in blue, green, black, orange and red respectively.
They had replaced the dodgeball grounds with a massive party tent with balloons and tables and food from every country in every dietary need. Music is playing, Wo Ai Beijing, and Beijing Huan Ying Ni, and various songs from different countries, with even national anthems thrown in.
In the tent is a giant mound of presents, all wrapped and addressed to every person in the HQ, each one of varying sizes and shapes - inside containing a heartfelt gift of what the Fuwa assumed was their deepest desire. But possibly most notable of all: a Yak with a blue scarf around it's neck. The note tagged to it's ear said two words and two words only: "Tibet. Beibei."
There is a letter addressed to everyone:
Thank you for allowing us to be your hosts. It has been an amazing opportunity. Please celebrate the closing of the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008 as we pass our torch to London 2012, and look forward to Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010. We love each and every one of you.
And there are five little figures set right next to the note. Smiling.
