It was like the twilight zone

Visited Wing 's mom at the hospital.  It was surreal, bordering on bizarre. First she insisted we had been waiting for a long time. No, we had only gotten there. Then it got odd ( Read more... )

This is all so sad and must be unbelievably stressful. Our family has experienced only a tiny fraction of this and it was horrible enough. You're doing good.

We're doing what we can, but it's a slow road back for her. No quick fix. The goodish news is that now she's being treated and cared for, Wing is sleeping a bit better the past two nights.

It is early days yet. Give it another week or two and she may settle down better.

And .. um .. this is classic dementia, not depression ... Regular, better meals may help some. Sometimes inadequate nutrition can make it look worse than it is, so there may be some improvement. Older folk dont eat and drink when they should because they no longer feel hungry or thirsty - the chemical triggers are no longer present. Dehydration and lack of food can produce confused behaviour.

After a week or so ask the psych what the prognosis is likely to be.

Actually, no, it's not dementia. It's acute depression, combined with insomnia/sleep deprivation, and malnutrition over gods know how long before she hit rock bottom.

Even her stress and worry about everything being the worst of the worst is acute depression(example, all houses get 'settling cracks' in paint. She is so down in the deep black that she takes this to mean the house is falling apart around her. NOTHING is good, everything is bad.)

Thanks... It's emotionally and physically exhausting. Not just for her, but we're hopeful.
