jfijfkrhscd okay, so! I finished a fic for the first time in, like, almost two months. Ahahaha, it's been, like, 700 words away from being finished for two weeks and getting that paper done was enough of a boost for me to finish it. /shameface

So.

Four Times Percy Saw a Daemon Settle (And The One Daemon That Never Did)Percy Jackson/His Dark ( Read more... )

All right. I've been convinced on Percy (and I loved everyone else) but I'm still up in the air about Nico. Just because hummingbirds have so much energy, to me, I can't see them sitting still ever and Nico is more of a lazybones to me. Sulking as a first response. But, idk. They don't always have to buzz about?

My thought would be magpie. Curious, collectors, recognise themselves in mirrors - IDK JUST MY THOUGHTS. nico does have so many layers, though. like an onion!

Hmmmmm. I GET WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, this is all very true. We had a lot of ideas for Nico; king cobra and Mariana fruit bat were two other options I was rather fond of. But I think ... hmm, I think the main reason I went with hummingbird is because at the time Linne settled, Nico'd just learned that his sister's dead: and that he's alone, seventy years removed from the decade he was born in, knows nobody, and has just discovered powers to raise the dead. He's ten years old, small, frightened, and just wants to disappear. So that's kind of what I was aiming for -- Linne settling by force of traumatic experience. AND DRAMA AND STUFF, idk.

Magpie. Yesssss. ANYTHING ELSE YOU THINK WORKS FOR HIM? I AM CURIOUS TO HEAR.

it's definitely some kind of bird. i was also thinking a small snake for a bit, but i think the feathery mobility of birds is something that's very... nico. other raven and crow species come to mind, but magpies have that ~dual nature thing going on.

and, strangely enough i think it's not losing his sister that was the main turning point for him - that was just the beginning. he behaved very childishly about it, and put all the blame on percy, and stalked off in a huff. but coming back - talking to her, having to come to terms with the fact that some things just happen, and having to apologize to percy - all of that was his big step to maturity ( ... )

It's a very catchy name for a pet. That's probably why Sally and Percy coined it XDD

fjihfrshud thank you, bb ♥ I was worried that the whole thing just didn't make sense, so this comment is a relief.

This is the best part XD
I especially loved the hummingbird choice, the part about it in the fic itself were spot-on as far as I understand Nico's character. And I approve of the St. Bernand very much, it's exactly the kind of understated awesome it should be.

Heroes are always the most difficult ones to place. Like, you want to give them something ~super special awesome~ because they deserve it, even when, underneath their circumstances and everything, they're just ordinary people who want ordinary things.

Thank you very much! It makes me warm and fuzzy inside to hear that you approve ♥
