The ornaments were scattered among several dozen cases, the press was tied up for a week with other projects, the paper got crumpled in transit and then set down on a dirty table, ruining half of it, the two colors refused to line up properly in the printing, the paper was further marred

I'm sorry your project isn't turning out the way you want it to, but if it's a wedding present then you shouldn't feel bad and you still have lots of time (if you still want to give it to them). Wedding presents aren't considered "late" until after the first anniversary. And the couple probably cares more about your presence than your presents, so you're far from being a jerk. Have fun at the wedding!
