I found this helpful. You might too.Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. Oh I am so in this gap. I hate it, I really do. It's very hard to keep writing when the stuff is so far below my ideas and ambition. I'm much more creative and talented in my head than on paper right now and it gets exhausting to keep producing the bad stuff day after day, but I have hope. I loved reading the Ira Glass piece, thanks so much.

Just keep slogging. Keep going. If you buy the 10,000 hours rule, it'll take a while to get good. Note that writing prose is hard to measure in time, because we start doing it early in school and get some useful practice all through our lives. Write a couple hundred thousand words of fanfiction and see what progress you've made!
