I have a cat on my shins.

The cat is laboring under the misapprehension that he is starving to death because his food bowl is empty. There is no reasoning with him. He'll win in the end ( Read more... )

It's so slow for me right now. I haven't finished anything in nearly 6 months, which is awful because I've been writing the whole time. So many thousands of words in stories I'm convinced aren't good enough to finish. But I will finish something! NOW!

Oh dear! I had a bookcase collapse on me in that fashion in first year residence. It was less painful (well, a bit) and more "did this actually jsut happen?!?"

Yay for fic! I've got to go through some of this when I've got more time; especially the Giles/Xander fic. :D

We have decided to be happy it happened, because we filled two boxes with books from those shelves that we don't need to keep any more. WE'RE DE-BOOKING. At least a little bit. When two book-centric people have twenty-five years of books in one place, it gets a bit overwhelming.

Hmm. Perhaps I will get it into some kind of state where the missing bits all have their little [[ thing happens here ]] summaries and then send it to you so you can complain that I haven't written the sex scene at the end yet. :D

Oh sex scenes schmex scenes. Honestly? There are only a handful of instances in which they don't turn my stomach these days. I mostly just gloss over them. Ooh, that sounds terrible, doesn't it?

To be honest, I'm at that point too. I think a lot of people progress along the same curve when reading fanfic. First the reaction is shock, then gradual acceptance. Then a porn-consuming phase follows. Then you reach the point where nearly all descriptions of sex feel cliched and tedious to you, and you're way more interested in that unusual plot twist. Right now now I'm way far along this curve, to the point where I'm almost anti-porn. I blame kink memes for how jaded I am right now, I think. Oh, look at what improbable position the posable action figures are in now!

This makes writing sex scenes either a) impossible (I cut them from stories when I realize I have no interest in reading them) or b) a lot of work to try to be emotionally exciting without devolving into too-familiar descriptions of hydraulics.

Just now I was grooving on describing a 17th century church. I found the perfect photo reference and I was trying to get at the feeling of cold damp stone in prose. FUN.

Did you see, 'tenna, did you see? There are slashers who will actually read a story with a major romantic OFC link, child characters and a long wait for pay-off. I'm stunned!

Thanks for the shout-out!

They know the slash is waiting for them at the end, like a big chocolate chip cookie still warm from the oven. (But I like the future-discovery bits you're posting now SO VERY MUCH.)
