Return of the Ficpoll (Oasis of hurt/comfort edition)

Jun 14, 2010 08:30

I woke up this morning with an urge to write h/c. Mostly what I need is a short-ish thing to work on as a break from Iceland that is not also a giant plotty thing. Because all I have right now are complicated plotty things, and context-switching is becoming tricky. I needs me some idfic as a change of pace.

I have discovered an enormous weakness for h/c that's very heavy on the "traumatic life circumstances" h, ala

Hmm, perhaps I could read some of Helenish's HP stuff. Don't know her other fandoms, and have never been into reading fic for fandoms I don't know at all.

Oh FFS. Let's try this again:

Alright, so I was painstakingly un-doing the last few hours' work on some rather finicky lace and thinking about Helenish and h/c and somehow it evolved into a whole big list o' recs. Brace yourself:

H/C heavy on H:

Theft of Assets, Destruction of Property by Helenish, Harry Potter

My favorite of helenish's HP stories.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 all by Greywolf, Star Trek: TOS (not movieverse)

Alright, totally apropos of nothing, but so awesome I had to share. VERY epic- each "part" is actually a self-contained story. Involves capture by aliens, slavery, irreversible physical damage and bureaucratic corruption. Plus bonus!awesome!McCoy. :)

Unnamed Xander-torture story by anonymous author wtf_is_shame. You may have already read this (heck, you may know who he/she really is!) but it is a masterpiece of the very, very heavy H genre. Chapters were posted chronologically ( ... )

I was going to check all of them, too, but decided that wasn't fair. I'd like to see Buffy comfort Giles (really, really comfort) after Jenny's death. I hate Jenny. But really only because she's not Buffy.

Poor Jenny.
Hrm. This is not the direction of the poll, but I could write this. Should write this. Have planned to write this.

Hypothermia with rain as a comfort would be, uh, rather difficult to write. I think. tick tick tickety tick.

I am going to give you hypothermia h/c with rain in the Iceland story. It'll work, no worries. And after that, there'll be ash falling from the sky.
